Young but faithful? – Jane and Cyrus’ wedding

It is common impression that faith and religion are for older people.  Even for Bin and I, we are one of the younger couples at our home church CCIC-SV, though we are really not that young any more :-) .   I have a theory on this: people, like me, won’t bother with religion until they have experienced enough bumps and struggles in their life.  This impression/theory was challenged after we attended Jane and Cyrus’ wedding.

Jane and Cyrus tied the knots at their home church in Berkeley.  Among the 160 guests, except for family members, the rest are pretty much all young folks, who are either still in college/graduate school or just recently graduated.  And majority of them are UC Berkeley alumni.  Bin and I were very impressed by these energetic young folks, who excelled at school yet are so humble in HIM.

Maturity is how prepared one is ahead of any potential difficulty.  Admit it or not, maintaining a long term relationship is challenging, especially in a society nowadays with so many options, temptation and freedom.  Honestly, I always believe that loyalty is really against human nature.  Taking my daughter as an example, she has tons of toys, but the most popular one is always the next one.  She is only three years old, but what guarantees that a 20-year-old won’t act on the same principle when it comes to marriage?

Jane and Cyrus, however, is a lucky couple, more mature than Bin and I were when we walked into this marriage maze 9 years ago.  They are so lucky because they are engaged, surrounded, and nourished by the group of young but faithful friends.  Although our newlywed just started to build their new home with limited asset, they have got tons of fortune from their fellowship to begin with.

Jane and Cyrus, congratulations!
